The scale follows the harmonic minor pattern: A♯ to B♯ (whole), B♯ to C♯ (half), C♯ to D♯ (whole), D♯ to E♯ (whole), E♯ to F♯ (half), F♯ to A (augmented second), and A to A♯ (half). While this creates the same haunting sound as its enharmonic equivalent B♭ harmonic minor, the notation using double sharps makes it more challenging to read.

A♯ harmonic minor is primarily of theoretical interest, as its enharmonic equivalent B♭ harmonic minor is strongly preferred in practice. The scale's complex notation, requiring multiple double sharps, makes it impractical for most musical applications.
